Indigo Gallery & Stewart Jones Jeweler relocated to the heart of Joseph's downtown in July 2005. The historic 1911 bank building at 2 South Main Street with 16 foot ceilings, marble wall accents, and two vaults, one turned into an art viewing room, is a perfect venue for showcasing art and jewelry.
The gallery was established in 1989, in Lake Oswego, Oregon, by husband and wife team, Stewart Jones and Catherine Matthias. They relocated to Joseph in 1999, to a Colonial Revival-style home that housed the gallery on the first floor.
But when their daughter, Lisa Laser, and son-in-law, Bob Ransdell, moved to Joseph with their children, Ellis and Lilah, and the bank building went on the market, they decided to expand the business by joining with Lisa and Bob as partners and purchasing the new building together.
The gallery features paintings, prints, photography, sculpture, pottery, hand-raised copper and jewelry of local, regional, and international artists. And it is the studio for international award-winning jeweler, Stewart Jones, who designs and fabricates jewelry in gold, platinum, and silver.
Joseph is a vibrant, rural town of approximately 1100 people located in the extreme northeast corner of Oregon. A mile north of beautiful Wallowa Lake, the town sits at the base of the spectacular Wallowa Mountains and on the edge of the 354,290 square acre Eagle Cap Wilderness.
Joseph is home to numerous galleries, specialty shops, and bronze foundries producing work that is shipped all over the world. Art, recreational tourism, ranching, and timber are the mainstays of the county.

We often use the gallery space for community events and fundraisers. The wonderful acoustics and the Yamaha piano create a perfect venue for music performances, but we also have hosted play readings and glass painting events. The photo shows Grace Donovan playing lively Irish, Swing and Old Time Fiddle music at the launch of her first CD. Funds from the event helped pay expenses for Grace to study in Spain her junior year of high school for the America Field Service.
